The Story Behind the Piece
The Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland is a landscape full of character, where the land meets the sea and the elements are constantly at work.
This loose landscape study is my interpretation of that rugged coastline, focusing less on precise detail and more on the feeling of the place. It's an expressive response to the shapes, textures and atmosphere of the coast, capturing the landscape through movement, colour and mark-making.
Rather than trying to recreate every detail, I wanted to let the marks do the work, building up an impression of the coastline through a more instinctive and gestural approach.
Behind the Drawing
Created using pastels on paper, this original landscape study explores the expressive potential of loose, energetic mark-making.
Layers of gestural strokes build up the composition, allowing colour, texture and movement to work together. The marks remain visible and full of energy, giving the piece a raw, immediate quality rather than a polished or photographic finish.
I enjoy working this way because it leaves room for spontaneity. Each mark contributes to the overall feeling of the landscape, creating a piece that sits somewhere between observation and abstraction.
The result is a unique interpretation of one of Northern Ireland's most recognisable coastal landscapes, created through the physical process of working directly with pastel.

Packaging & Care
Your original pastel artwork will be carefully protected and packaged to help prevent the delicate pastel surface from being disturbed during delivery.
Pastel is a delicate medium, so I recommend framing the piece behind glass, ideally with a mount or spacer to keep the artwork from touching the glass. This will help protect the surface while allowing the texture and energy of the marks to remain visible.
